  • Aldehydes ketones and carboxylic acids 

A carbonyl group is known as a double bond between a carbon atom and an oxygen atom. The shape of the carbonyl group is a trigonal planar structure. 

In aldehyde, one of the two additional bonds formed by the carbonyl carbon atom is to a hydrogen atom, while the other is to an aromatic ring or alkyl group, etc.

In ketone, both carbonyl carbon atom’s additional bonds are bound to another carbon atom that belongs to an aromatic or alkyl group.

In carboxylic acid, one of the additional carbonyl carbon atom bonds are linked to a hydroxyl group. At the same time, the other is attached to an aromatic ring system, alkyl group, or hydrogen atom in a carboxylic acid.
